Shardale Treatment Programme for Alcohol Dependence
This abstinence based treatment programme is
available to those individuals who satisfy the ICD 10 classification for
alcohol dependence as: ‘a cluster of psychological, behavioural and
cognitive phenomena in which the use of a substance or class of
substances takes on a much higher priority for a given individual than
other behaviours’.
This programme is underpinned by Choice Theory, which is a proven,
effective system for attaining a more efficient and fulfilling way of
living. The programme also comprises of basic living skills and
vocational training, in order to ensure that upon the completion of the
programme, participants have the necessary life skills to manage
employment and responsible social living.

Treatment provision is predominantly for alcohol addiction, however,
service users with secondary substance misuse, along with addiction to
alcohol, will be assessed on an individual basis, and treatment can be
tailored to individual need. The House has a secure female wing which
has the ability to cater for five female service users.
The Woolfield House Therapeutic Community is located in Bury Greater
Manchester and provides alcohol rehab for the effective treatment of
alcohol addiction. Our clients are referred by social services
departments in local councils in Bury, Manchester, Lancashire and Wyre
Councils but we also accept self funding users. As well as residential
alcohol rehabilitation, Shardale also offer day care facilities for up
to twelve individuals.
